Section 1

Meet the table

Identify the seats, button, blinds, private cards, shared board, and practice pot.

Texas Hold'em is played with a standard 52-card deck. Each player receives two private hole cards, and the table reveals five shared community cards. The best five-card poker hand available from those seven cards wins the showdown, unless every other player folds first.

Hole cards are private to one player.
Community cards are shared by every remaining player.
The dealer button marks the rotating dealer position.
Small blind and big blind begin the practice action.

Deal the hand

Follow the four dealing streets from pre-flop through river.

A Texas Hold'em hand unfolds in four named streets. Betting happens after each stage: pre-flop, flop, turn, and river. The flop is three cards; the turn and river add one card each.

Pre-flop: deal two private hole cards to each player.
Flop: reveal three community cards.
Turn: reveal the fourth community card.
River: reveal the fifth and final community card.

Learn the action

Use the core action words without turning the lesson into strategy advice.

At each betting opportunity, a player may fold, check, call, or raise depending on the current action. The words describe what happens to the hand and practice pot; they do not tell a learner what decision to make.

Fold ends your participation in the current hand.
Check passes the action when no bet is facing you.
Call matches the current bet.
Raise increases the amount for later players.

Recognize the hand

Review the basic hand-ranking order and complete a short knowledge check.

From highest to lowest, the standard ranking is royal flush, straight flush, four of a kind, full house, flush, straight, three of a kind, two pair, one pair, and high card. A later module can expand this into full hand-comparison practice and tie handling.
