CIS-C110 – Word Processing and Business Documents introduces learners to the essential tools and techniques used to create clear, accurate, and professionally formatted workplace documents.
Using modern word-processing software such as Microsoft Word and Google Docs, students learn how to create, save, organize, edit, and format documents for a variety of business and administrative purposes. Course activities emphasize practical workplace applications rather than software memorization, helping learners develop skills they can transfer between different platforms and professional environments.
Students work with common business documents, including professional letters, internal memoranda, meeting agendas, workplace notices, reports, tables, forms, and reusable templates. Instruction covers text and paragraph formatting, page layout, headings, lists, margins, headers, footers, page numbers, document styles, tables, and print preparation.
The course also introduces proofreading, spelling and grammar tools, comments, tracked changes, document collaboration, accessibility, printing, and PDF export. Learners practice reviewing documents for accuracy, consistency, readability, and professional presentation.
By the end of the course, students will be able to create and revise polished business documents, apply consistent formatting, collaborate on shared files, prepare documents for digital or printed distribution, and select appropriate document structures for common workplace situations.
The course concludes with a practical document portfolio containing several completed workplace documents, such as a business letter, internal memo, meeting agenda, office form, and reusable template.
