Course Description

This beginner-friendly course introduces English-speaking learners to practical Filipino/Tagalog for everyday interaction. Learners practice pronunciation, greetings, polite expressions, introductions, common questions, essential vocabulary, simple sentence patterns, numbers, time, directions, shopping, ordering food, family, work, and social conversation.

Instruction emphasizes usable communication, respectful cultural context, and confidence rather than advanced grammar or fluency. Grammar is explained in accessible English, and Tagalog examples include English translations. Each two-hour meeting includes guided speaking, listening, reading, writing, pronunciation practice, short dialogues, and realistic role-play.

Instructional Approach

Classes combine instructor modeling, repetition, pronunciation coaching, pair practice, listening comprehension, short reading and writing tasks, and scenario-based conversation practice. Each meeting has one connected two-hour independent assignment for vocabulary review, pronunciation recording, written practice, or a short dialogue deliverable.

Materials

Required: notebook or digital notes, reliable internet access for hybrid participation and assignments, and a device capable of recording short audio or video. Instructor-provided handouts and practice prompts are included.

Recommended: Tagalog-English dictionary or dictionary app, flashcard app, and headphones for listening and pronunciation practice.

Hours and Workload

The course includes eight instructor-led meetings of two hours each for 16 instructional clock hours. Each meeting has one two-hour practical assignment, totaling 16 independent assignment hours. Total learner workload is exactly 32 hours.

Enrollment and Pricing

Target retail price: $99. Enrollment is intended for beginners and is suitable for learners with no prior Tagalog experience. Capacity is limited to support speaking practice, feedback, and small-group role-play.

Final Practical Activity

The course concludes with a beginner conversation activity in which each learner introduces themselves and participates in a short everyday Tagalog exchange using greetings, polite language, questions, vocabulary, and sentence patterns practiced during the course.
